Gun Control Arguements Fail the Logical Test

In the wake of the shooting at Virginia Tech there are have calls for anything from more gun control to allowing everyone to have guns.  I am a strong proponent of the constitution as it was written.   We have the right to bear arms.   Those arguing for a ban on guns assume that by outlawing guns it will at least make getting guns more difficult.   Other's argue banning guns will make it impossible to get guns and therefore no-one will die from guns.

First, anything that is desired can be had with a little persistence and some money.   Take drugs for example, they are illegal.   Based on gun control's argument there shouldn't be drugs available or at least vastly reduced.  As we can tell from the nightly news, drugs are everywhere are easy to get.  So making gun's illegal will just drive their sale underground and create a larger arena for criminals to make money.

Per Neal Boortz, would you be willing to put a sign outside your house.   "There are no gun's in this house"     I think there would be very few folks willing to do this.   The reason this argument is a good one is by making guns illegal, criminals would realize almost every honest person wouldn't have a gun.  This would make it less dangerous for them to perpetrate their crimes.

"Gun's Kill People" is another big argument.   Gun's are just a tool.   I am all for having a waiting period and having to pass some requirements for obtaining a gun.  This will slow those who would do harm to people on the spur of the moment.   However, those that wish to hurt or kill their fellow man will do it one way or other.

Gun control has some interesting bed fellows.  The far left would make guns illegal for everyone.  If I was a terrorist or a criminal I would want gun control as well.  Since a criminal or terrorist could get gun's illegally it would not be a problem for them.   However, the lacking the knowledge of who might have a gun is in and of itself a large deterrent.
